Description

Planted and now naturalising and, even worse forming hybrid swarms with the hokotaka (Corokia macrocarpa).

A few shrubs and seedlings noted as well as hybrids between C. ×virgata and C . macrocarpa i.e. C. macrocarpa × C. ×virgata (C. buddelioides × C. cotoneaster) .

Description

Plant was found in on a partially shaded stream bank. Plants formed thickets around 1.5 m - 2 m tall. Pink-flowered variant also in this area. Flowers were purple, stems and leaves were fragrant when crushed.

Description

Pennantia baylisiana x P. corymbosa (known also as P. 'Otari Debut').

One of the more bizarre plantings on the island. A single tree growing in old orchard. Obviously a recent planting on the island as this hybrid (which first appeared spontaneously near the parent species at Otari Native Plant Gardens, Wilton, Otari) has only been known about since the late 1980s.
