Photos / SoundsWhatSupplejack (Ripogonum scandens)Observerkaipatiki_naturewatchDescriptionSlender vine several metres high ascending a juvenile kauri. The kauri has a deep bark wound that looks like vine damage, probably from Japanese honeysuckle or pink jasmine, both of which have current infestations now being thoroughly addressed, and signs of a larger historical infetation of honeysuckle - there is a honeysuckle trunk c.6-8cm Diameter nearer the residence on the property, presumably having been partially controlled in the past as there is little honeysuckle now. The jasmine however is a current infestation which has smothered and strangled a large number of trees along about 50m of banktop above this observation. There is at least one very extensive karaeo vine on the gorund, in understorey and in numerous tall canopy trees within about 70m. |

There are a few larger specimens nearby, and a few large mature, at least one being gradually reduced by landowner in the margin of moderately diverse regen kauri forest with kauri seedlings, juveniles and rickers |

This specimen is visible to its emergence in low canopy, and has no branches or foliage. The trunk, or a major vertical branch, appears to have been partially felled at some time, perhaps due to breakage as it is near houses. |

WhatKauri (Agathis australis)Observerkaipatiki_naturewatchDescriptionIn centre foreground, juvenile with deep bark wound, possibly from honeysuckle or pink jasmine no longer present on this tree but prevalent a few metres away. Diameter near base is about 25cm, see last image (The alarming appearance of the human fingers is just earth and plant material, due to repeatedly putting on and taking off rubber gloves in muddy conditions) |

@jon_sullivan, I'm trying to work out whether I am using this field appropriately. In the /projects/seeds-fruits-propagules-in-nz project I have been adding this "Life stage" field and setting it to "seed" for both observations of seeds and fruits, as fruit isn't really a different stage of growth.
Or should we add a "fruit" stage?
Can we add seed to this?
