Description

Piwakawaka pair courtship feeding near this nest in a juvenile kanuka beside the track. Saw one bird visit the nest for a short time, before both birds flew off into the wetland estuary. Nest was 2m off the ground. Carefully checked inside, but no eggs or chicks. Yet!

Piwakawaka pair were courtship feeding and staying close to a nest in a juvenile kanuka beside the track. Saw one bird visit the nest for a short time, before both birds flew off into the wetland estuary. Nest was 2m off the ground. Carefully checked inside, but no eggs or chicks. Yet!

Four birds foraging on the beach and grass reserve near a fenced off nesting area. Lots of agitated territorial calls from the bird in the first two images, who then chased off another dotterel.
