Description

On Abies balsamea needles tiny erumpent cup fungi. Growing from both sides. The tree was broken during a storm about 2 years prior. Apothecia 0.3-0.9mm in diameter, greenish after rehydration.
Asci 8-spored, IKI+R, croziers(-), measured
*(88.4) 101.2 - 118.9 (125.1) × (11.1) 11.5 - 12.9 (13.6) µm ; N = 10
Me = 112.8 × 12.1 µm ;
Ascospores hyaline, subfusiform, guttulate, OCI=3-4, measured
*(14.7) 15.8 - 18.6 (19) × (5) 5.2 - 6.4 (6.8) µm
Q = (2.4) 2.7 - 3.2 (3.5) ; N = 20
Me = 17.3 × 5.9 µm ; Qe = 2.9
Spores are mostly aseptate. I observed two spores with 1-septum.
Paraphyses cylindrical sometimes narrow at the top, with green wall and 3-4um in diam., septate, sometimes forked at the top. An immature cup had paraphyses just cylindrical or slightly spatulate at the apex, without narrow top.

Ectal excipulum textura globulosa.

Ass. Elliottinia kerneri
