I missed most of the excitement. Some belugas swam up the Kuskokwim (perhaps following the smelt run) and some hunters pursued them. I heard the gunshots, but only saw the aftermath. You can see the whale behind the red boat. Alaska Natives are legally allowed to hunt beluga for subsistence and the population in the Bering Sea is healthy

3 days of standing outside in the cold at a friend's feeder finally paid off. 1 of Bethel's 2 legendary 2020 overwintering White-throated Sparrows. According to Bethel birders, they have only seen 1 other white-throated sparrow in Bethel in the last 40 years. This winter there are 2 around frequenting their feeder. I only saw the one today.
