Dominant tree in regenerating indigenous forest. Images show tree canopy, trunk and bark, seedlings, distinctive glabrescent linear foliage (note bright yellow-green colour typical of this species) and branchlets - note these appear glabrous (they do have sparse, fine, patent (divergent) hairs - but these can usually only be seen using a 20× magnification hand lens when in the field). Note also the flowers which are very shortly pedicellate.
These are features of Kunzea ericoides s.s. a northern South Island endemic that was originally described from specimens collected by the French from Astrolabe Passage in what is now Abel Tasman National Park in the 1820s (probably 1826).
Mushrooms growing out of a split in a large, cultivated tree. Largest caps ~15cm in width, smallest ~5cm.
Same location as my previous record

Growing in open grassy area
Agaricus with a fibrous cap - the fibres tinged orange-brown. Flesh is cream with cap having slight but distinct yellow staining when cut. Gills free and mouse brown. Cap convex but quite young and probably not fully open. Cap size 5 cm in diameter and 6.5 cm in height. Stipe broader at base with distinct hanging ring about midway down stipe. Colour of stipe cream, fibrous with slight yellow when damaged. In regenerating native forest near the start of the track with some Pinus radiata.
Looks like it will be big. I didn't want to disturb it yet, will see if it's still there and matured in a couple days.
