Overstory of mostly poplars with some firs and pines - burn site of greenwood fire so most of canopy is dead. Oddly with almost all whorled buds, maybe some genetic variation or a response to stress. Quite a few stem borers -https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/203686632. Maybe genetically more susceptible, or they are causing/taking advantage of the stress that might have caused expression of whorled leaves?
