A newly-excavated Red-bellied Woodpecker cavity has been discovered by a European Starling. The male and female Red-bellied are both visible in this photo and the male is trying to pull the Starling out of the nest by its foot.
Starting to see new life with spring just around the corner!
He started drummng two days ago.
Did not see the tail but an American Stoat has been staying around my bird feeders waiting for rodents.
one of a flock of five
Nice population found by @mirosen with several dozen plants
Found in leaf litter under a basswood tree. I compared it to some of the cocoons I raised and I think it’s a Luna moth.
Found on a vertical daylily stem after it was just cut down. Caterpillar was still just visible inside. I attached it to this red maple branch (as it finished the cocoon) and put netting around to keep a bird from pecking it. Can observe it many times a day and can remove the netting next spring at breakout time. Any other tree I should put it on after coming out?

Brown Booby (Sula leucogaster), 110_9877.JPG
Observed a two moons beewolf hunting on shasta daisy plantings in Marsh-Billings Rockefeller formal gardens. Assuming it was a single individual, it attacked, paralyzed and flew off with two bees (one in Genus Sphecodes and one of unknown genus) during an approximate 8-minute period.
Observed visiting multiple tomatillo flowers in the garden (Physalis philadelphica 'toma verde'). Apparent bulging clypeus as per VT Center for Ecostudies species profile.
Submitted on behalf of the observer.

Best Day Ever!!! I wish iNat let you upload video, it’s magnificent!
earliest ever I've seen in flower here in Montpelier
A life species for me! This little squirrel was digging seeds out of the snow under the bird feeder. I've thought we might have flying squirrels here because sometimes late at night, we hear the typical sounds of red or gray squirrels racing along the outside of our log cabin walls, but likely not either of those diurnal species.
Photos taken through window glass and screen (left on to prevent window hits).
20-30 birds flying in and out of a crabapple and snacking on the fruits
This record, for now representing the first US occurrence of this species, is submitted on behalf of David Barrington, who discovered this individual while botanizing with Catherine Paris and Elizabeth Thompson. Additional details of the record will be published in an upcoming edition of The News of the Lepidopterists' Society.
This record precedes several others from here in Vermont, including what had been previously considered the first US record (on 15 Sep 2020). All the US iNaturalist records are here: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?place_id=1&subview=grid&taxon_id=55641
