Apothecia prolific, red-brown. In some respects approaches S. livida but the lobes are in the upper range for that species as it is defined by Galloway (2007), and the cyphellae are too large. My son found this on a damp boulder in silver beech (Lophozonia menziesii) forest near the summit of Te Aroha. Initially we both assumed it was a piece of canary yellow nylon from some clothing or rope, perhaps left by a tramper - but on touching it, it contracted and start moving away from where it was touched. I have never seen a terrestrial planarian this colour, width and length (when initially seen I measured it at c.150 mm long, 3-4 mm wide) in New Zealand before. These images show the specimen after it had already started contracting.

Toward the base of the Surville Cliffs Pimelea sporadica can be found growing with P. urvilleana (subsp. urvilleana if you accept subsp. nesica as distinct) and P. carnosa but here the distinction is often unclear - probably because of hybridism between all three taxa.
