Phaeosaces coarctatella (Walker, 1864). Endemic. Locally common.
It is common throughout New Zealand and can be found in native forest and gardens. Adults are found mainly from September to December, occasionally January. They fly at night and come to light.
Larvae shelter under loose bark or in hollow twigs of trees and shrubs, emerging at night to graze on epiphytic lichens. They pupate in the larval shelter (Hoare, 2014).
