Eumetriochroa panacitorsens (Watt, 1920). F.L. 2.5 mm. Endemic. Common.
According to Hudson (1928) "the perfect insect appears from September to February and is found in forests. It is not thought to be a common insect although widespread". I have come across this species regularly next to native bush in the Coromandel Ranges.
The larvae of all Gracillariidae start as leaf miners. The larva is known to make long narrow mines in leaves of Pseudopanax species related to lancewood.
Larva | miner |
---|---|
Forewing | 2-5 mm, elongate, narrow |
Resting posture | inclined, roof-like |
