Xanthocnemis tuanuii

Habitat and ecology 7

Habitat and Ecology

This species mainly occurs in forest streams also in Tuku river (R. Rowe pers. comm. 2011). It breeds in bush runnels, brown-water peat streams, and rivers. Adults are widespread in bracken areas and forest clearings up to 400 m from breeding sites. The larvae occur amongst aquatic vegetation in shaded runnels, sheltered parts of swift flowing brown water streams and riverside pools (Rowe 1987). The estimates of survival for males and females were 0.75 and 0.50 (or 0.72 if all observations are combined), which is very low for odonates, but this is not thought to be due to human impacts.
