Acanthochitona thileniusi

Description 1

Rare chiton, 18 to 20.5mm long, 10.5mm wide (from 2 examples). Colour not described. Described as similar to A. zelandica but with the skirt/girdle "spicules stronger" and the bristles in the tufts at the corners of the plates are notably shorter and thicker. Another difference is in the rear plate which is much wider than long in this species.

Distribution 1

Powell states he has only found 2 examples, both from Tauranga.
