Pyrgotis plagiatana (Walker, 1863). Endemic. Widespread & Common.

This is an extremely variable moth, the forewings variably patterned.

Habitat, seasonality and behaviour 9

This is a very common moth of native forest. It is on the wing from October through to early March and is attracted to artificial light.

Life history 9

The larvae are polyphagous, webbing together and feeding on the leaves and cladodes of various trees and shrubs, including Carmichaelia spp, Coriaria arborea, Fuchsia excorticata, Hebe elliptica, Hebe stricta, Hebe subalpina, Melicope simplex, Metrosideros spp, Ozothamnus leptophyllus, Pittosporum tenuifolium, Tupeia antarctica, Pinus radiata and Ulex europaeus.
