Gymnobathra flavidella

XYLORYCTIDAE: Timber Moths 6

Gymnobathra flavidella (Walker, 1864). F.L. 4.5-8.5 mm. Endemic. Common & Widespread.

There are possibly two species classified under this name, both are found in the Coromandel ranges.

Habitat, seasonality and behaviour 7

Adults are found in native forest from late December to April. They can often be disturbed from vegetation by day, later they fly at night and come to light.

Life history 7

Larvae usually feed in dead shoots or twigs of rangiora, but are also recorded from old flower-stems of gahnia and probably have other host plants. They pupate in the feeding place.
