Hierodoris illita

XYLORYCTIDAE: Timber Moths 5

Hierodoris illita (Felder & Rogenhofer, 1875). Endemic. Locally common.

Examples can exhibit quite variable forewing markings and coloration.

Habitat, seasonality and behaviour 6

The reference specimen was captured whilst flying fast during the day through a forest clearing in the central Coromandel ranges.

Life history 6

According to Hoare (2005) the larva are most often found feeding inside the woody stem or branch of Coriaria arborea (Tutu). A specimen has also been reared from a gall on a stem of Muehlenbeckia australis (pohuehue).
