Description

This Millipede was being attacked, apparently, by a number of tiny flies - some of the images show them on the Millipede's body. Every few seconds the Millipede would go into thrash mode, presumably in an effort to dislodge the flies. Has anyone seen this interaction before? I'm curious if the flies are parasites attempting to place their eggs on the Millipede, or if they are doing something entirely different but equally unpleasant.

Description

Largest millipede I've ever seen in California. Not too large, maybe 2.25" long. Found under a rock with lots of space under it.

Unsure of ID. The images for Tylobolus claremontus look darker and have red areas between segments. This one appeared lighter and more brown/tan throughout. It looked much lighter than the other ID suggested. Likely incorrect ID. Sorry. Unsure of this.
