We were hiking on one of Connecticut's less traveled blue trails and saw this cutie right next to the trail just munching away on a ground level hemlock pine branch. He knew we were there, but didn't react at all to our presence, just kept on eating and moving around the branch while we stood next to him and took photos. This is the first time we've seen a Porcupine in the lower 48. What a great encounter during the pandemic. This critter lives in a very lightly traveled trail area, hope he lives a long, peaceful life.

I was weeding and didn’t see her. She was unable to fly and I realized one wing had torn off.
I feel badly about it. Is this a female?
I placed her in a jar, inside the refrigerator. Not sure what to do with her. :(

It's always a thrill when Momma Bear brings the kids around for a visit.
First I see the three cubs getting a drink from the partially frozen bird bath, then there comes Momma and my one chance to get all 4 in one photo. They're a healthy looking bunch!
This makes the 4th bear family I've seen over the years of a momma black bear and her 3 cubs in my back yard.
