Found in the sand while digging holes to plant potatoes. There is a ~25ft strip of "no mow zone" in the lawn directly next to the bed, which has turned into clumpy grass litter and piles of now-dead shepherds needle, which the ring snakes love, but this is the first crown snake I have seen. The snake appeared uninjured from being accidentally dug up and was released after a minute of mildly invasive photography.
First full day in Belize, and I was already able to find a snake! Was basking just outside a tree hollow at the edge of an alley that got a lot of sun exposure. Rained for a few short periods that morning before becoming hot and sunny. Watched as it slowly slithered from the spot pictured to just outside the hollow entrance, which was in the shade (you can see it moving in photo 4). Guest it got all the heat it wanted and headed for the shade!
