Description

Locally common along track sides, within indigenous forest remnants and on coastal headlands. The few flowers seen were completely white and rather small. Leaves dull green, surfaces finely sericeous, margins more markedly so.

Voucher: PJ de Lange 12921 (AK 360144, Duplicate lodged in NZFRI). DNA voucher.

Such plants seem to be the spurious basis for the myth that northern Coromandel kahikatoa are referrable to the Northland endemic L. scoparium var. incanum - they most certainly are not.

Description

Low growing manuka with pink flowers, showing the hairy leaves and stem / branch also covered thickly in tiny hairs.

Main flowering season here started late Aug 2015 and ended beginning Dec 2015, but today I found some starting to flower again.

Maybe one of several new species lurking under the current circumscription of kahikatoa (Leptospermum scoparium). (Quote from @pjd1 - not me! *LOL*)

The last photo has the plant circled in case I have to find it again.
