Heavy browse by what?
White fungus on Plantago major
A couple of House Sparrows used our deck as a dining table for dismantling & eating Cicadas. Maybe an hours worth of feeding resulting in a pile of wings of which this is a small sample. I'm surprised the Sparrows could fly off at the end.
Floral arrangement by me - not the Sparrows
About 2/3cm long
One (or two) birds heard calling in the oioi.
Yes I know the photo is of the habitat, not the bird.
The trees in the background - I have a separate observation for Carex secta.

Spotted tree fly.
A fly I spotted on a tree.
Hagley Park, Christchurch NZ.
We had about 40 caterpillars on this plant a few months ago and now have a second wave of caterpillars on it.
Will they manage to pupate before it gets to cold (or they defoliate the swan plant again)?
Spotted by Allegra growing under a silver birch outside the preschool.
Eaten for dinner that evening!
