Stout colonial fruiting bodies growing in muddy, frequently flooded ground amongst Phormium tenax. Fruiting bodies large (up to 400 mm diameter), Pileus surface dark red-brown, firm, not slimy, concave, centrally with a few warty protuberances and scales. Internal flesh white and not discolouring on exposure. Gills blue / grey, adnexed.. Stipe clavate solid, internally flesh white, not discolouring, basal portion scaly. Annulus single edged, discontinuous.
