In beach drift in gravel and shell fragments at low tide. First one of this species for me...! Very fresh, possibly washed up because of the Tsunami. Found when I was digging the gravel to find some shells. Very rare to see them in Auckland. There are also some records of this species in Rodney, mainly by diving.
I will upload a photo of this specimen later.
Only a couple of these very delicate shells found washed up with many tiny shells
Common just at spray zone and just below high tide mark on shaded Waitemata Group boulders lying exposed on shore platform.
Uncommon - a few shells cast up amongst other shells and seaweeds at back of rocky beach.
Specimens sent to Andrew Spurgeon.
A "triton" of some sort. Not in good condition, found washed up on rock shoreline, original colour almost gone but seems to have been dark tan with darker brown stripes. Most of shell covered in coralline algae.
Found alive washed up at low tide on sandy beach adjacent a series of near shore submerged reefs.
Specimen rather battered and external surfaces much adorned with coralline algae.
Keyed out using New Zealand Mollusca - see http://www.mollusca.co.nz/identify.php
Found in moss below a fallen tree trunk crossing the track, beside a small bush stream.
