This Banana Yucca was found growing in a man-made tank that holds ephemeral water. It had very long, straight blades and was approximately 6.5 feet tall. It was growing in full sun and had a very short stalk, indicating it may be young. The blades had several filamentous strings coming off of every blade. It can be distinguished from Beargrass by the stalk. It can be distinguished from Sotol by the stalk and lack of serrations on each blade. The soil in which it grew was hard and gravelly.
A lizard that was hanging out around the Asa Wright feeders. He was picking up the pieces of Papaya and banana dropped by the birds and swallowing them whole.
Not exactly June 1, but June 200
