On barkless Tsuga/Pseudostuga stump. Either V. fimbriata or abietina. Sample collected for micro.
+UV reaction: strong orange in the stipe base and weak orange in universal veil sheath/remnants at midstipe and lower.
No UV reaction to cap, flesh, gills, or partial veil.
Aethalium: white, ~5-7cm x 2-4cm; peridia a mass of subglobular tubules. Capillitum: irregular lime nodes, granules 0.5-2.0 um. Spores: (8)11.3-13.8(17.5); violet brown, globose to oval, verrucose, subreticulate with warts joined in fine lines.
Very small cluster found growing under a piece of wood. Guessing it measured around 3 inches in length.
Micro slide shows paraphysis flaring, characteristic of macrocystis. (Hope I am stating that correctly, b-d.)
Cap grey to grey-brown on top, lighter under with dark spots (dirt?), concave, to 1 cm across.
Stem .5 cm, light, some with white mycelium at base
Asci 8-spored; spores 13 X 5 microns, cylindric but slightly pinched at one end, colourless, no oil droplets; paraphyses long, slender, to 100 microns
