~40cm long, chasing small fish
ex HMAS Brisbane
I’m interested in finding out the species of fish accompanying this sunfish. This was taken at the Bremer Canyon off the southern Western Australian coast on 8th Jan.
Interesting little neon blue fish in a Rockpool
Maybe a juvenile. I thought it showed a small white barbel when swimming. Size about 6 to 8cm. Two dorsal fins with 6 to 7 spines each ( I think)
Tag and release T22773 caught surfcasting
Skate egg case.
Looks very like Arhynchobatidae Arhynchobatis in TeAra, but deep water, rare?
Next best Arhynchobatidae Bathyraja but length/width ratio slightly off?
Else Rajidae Dipturus, common coastal, size is good, but photos not quite convincing.
eggs found among various washed up seaweed. At first I thought it was related to the Seaweed, perhaps seed pods. The community quickly identified these as egg cases of Zearaja Nasuta and thanks to Clinton for identifying other species found in the same washup. "The fifth image also contains three elephant fish (Callorhinchus milii) egg cases and one carpet shark (Cephaloscyllium isabellum) egg case." I am now creating other entries for these other egg cases.
No idea what this skeleton is. Seems to have webbed feet and a long tail.
The last photo has a circular item for scale - it is 52mm outside diameter.
Recently saw one of these sacs full of jelly - here's one quite thoroughly dried out.
3rd photo for location context - back side of the front dune, which as a steep front. Quite sheltered in today's stiff westerlies.
Washed up dead amongst beach driftwood.
