Description

In regenerating tanekaha (Phyllocladus trichomanoides) / kauri (Agathis australis) forest - within senescent rawirinui (Kunzea robusta). Uncommon (seen twice). Emerging from moss / liverwort covered clay bank. Fruiting thallus 250 mm tall, robust; stalk purple-pink, 'woody' smooth, 25-30 mm diameter, curved and slightly tapered; cap 70-80 mm diameter, upper surface dark maroon-purple, rather sticky, underside pinkish-cream.

Description

Growing with Furcraea foetida, Crassula ovata, Clivia miniata, Laurus nobilis and Agave attenuata in wasteland below Takau Street. Plants almost certainly arose from garden waste illegally dumped at this location (this species common in nearby urban gardens)
