Description

Three New Zealand dotterel. One appeared to be a chick/juvenile hanging closely with mum (see first and last two photos)? Chick/juvenile was noticabley smaller than 'mum'.

Description

Fantail seen hunting flying insects under street light by the Hudson hall car park during dark hours.

Seen for the last 2 weeks almost every night.

Fantail flies up and catches insects which are attracted to the light.

I found this abandoned nest under a small log in an area of regenerating forest near a small stream. I don't know what birds would lay their eggs on the ground in a place like that.

Description

Three singing popokatea including this fledgling foraging in kanuka with silver eyes, fantails and grey warblers.

Fledgling rested on a branch while adults foraged, preened and flapped wings begging for food.
