Hanging around our campsite
The fernbird is the sharp chirps. There are background vocals from at least one bellbird. At Mangarakau.
A pair of fernbirds along the Mt Cargill walking track.
An adult calling to a juvenile (which lacked the full tail). A two-toned whistle with a rattling sound in between. There was another adult nearby. Tautuku Estuary.
Cruising around and through the Gleichenia dicarpa.
Geographic location is not precise! The location is around the Waitakere Ranges.
Weather: Warm and sunny.
Behavior: Bird was interested in our activities. Was communicating with a companion.
Viewed 5 different birds
Banded green, blue; pink, metal.
Ignore the juvenile blackbird. Unbanded robin on outer boundary track. (still frame from video)
A pair, one banded.
Poor shot, but appears to be banded - which might be useful for someones records.
Second shot shows bands on both legs
The camera was accidentally set to some strange colour enhanced mode, but it is clearly an unbanded robin.
There were these two about here earlier in the year, I've only noticed one lately though.
Seen in Zealandia sanctuary
Maori name Pitotoi
Native bush. Alighted some distance away, then came boldly towards and past me. Camera chose a bad time to malfunction, and this was the best of a disastrous few photos!
