Spotted a large log that turned into an albatross when we got closer.
Obviously enjoying the Tohe as it stayed put when I went to get photos.
I have tentatively given this the ID of Antipodean albatross as from NZbirdsonline ID system this is the only one that lives within this area (30 - 50 degrees north-south and here is 34 degrees).
Or it could be Gibson's albatross (Diomedea antipodensis gibsoni)
Find of the day and this is what you missed out on @rongoa :D
Circling, following feeding of scraps from fishing boat.
All glory be to the Lord Jesus Christ, amen!
Could just be a dark WFT.
Antarctic could be a possibility

Not sure of species. Small. Didn't have blue feet. Alive, but exhausted or ill, so left it in peace.
Now this one I am currently quite unsure about.
I unfortunately only saw it far in the distance, hence why these photos are so bad. It seemed more bulky (and in retrospect a bit larger) than the Arctic Skuas I normally see along there. It also had a much more prominent white patch under the wing, and a double row of white on the upperwing. After a while it harassed a tern for food.
Hi everyone, I saw this penguin just NW of Pudney rock in Tauranga yesterday. I’m guessing it’s a Snares Crested penguin but would love a proper identification on it. Seen on Dolphin Seafaris.
Thanks,
Lizzie
Chick, taken with trail camera.
Chilling in crack in the cliff.
Small dead petrel found under power pylons at Tiwai Conservation Area. Fairly decomposed so may be difficult to ID.
Wandering Albatrosses at Moubray Hill; Steve Croasdale's photos per his permission. The second photo shows courtship display.
Guides identified as tomtit chick?
