Observer

Date

Description

This organism appears to be a large duck and has varying colors of green, white, black, and red. The most distinctive feature are the caruncles (the red, fleshy stuff around its eyes), which is a big indicator that it can be a Muscovy duck. The duck was near many trees and a large pond area. In addition, it was with a pack of other ducks. Reference: https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Muscovy_Duck/id#:~:text=Muscovy%20Ducks%20are%20large%2C%20heavy,are%20often%20larger%20than%20wild.

What

Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias)

Observer

Date

Description

This bird was relatively large, very long light almost yellowish/orange colored legs, long orange beak. Has brownish tan colored spot/feathers on corner of wings when folded (visible). What is most noticeable was variation of grey and blue colored feathers and white around eye as well as dark top of head and long feather hanging off top of his/her head. My known geographic distribution of these birds is not much however they do have range as I commonly have seen similar if not the same birds back home in Michigan. I took this photo at Stump Pass beach state park in Manasota Key, Florida. It was taken on the inside of the channel like area within the mangroves and water.
