A quick stop in a random spot where a pocket of chorusing was heard (cassinii and septedecim). Very patchy distribution of cicadas in this area - pockets of chorusing in forested islands amid quiet cropfields.

This recording captures Courtship III male call - very fast and without varying pitch.

The photo is the male that was actually calling; this sounded like a Courtship III call, but although there were females on the same tree, it was not actively approaching any of them. Not sure if this is just a "ticking" call variant?

This is from a small crabapple in the parking lot, where a lot of cassinii males were "ticking."
