What

Common Gull (Larus canus)

Observer

kaupunkilinnut

Date

June 19, 2024

Description

Lokki hyökkäsi västäräkin poikasta kohti. Huitaisin ja huusin lokille, lokki keskeytti hyökkäyksen ja räkättirastas hyökkäsi perään. Lokkien stressaantunut ja aggressiivinen käyttäytyminen saattoi johtua lähistöllä tapahtuneesta (pienestä) poikasen siirrosta. 4/4

Description

Larus canus was chasing wagtail fledgling by the hedge trying to catch it in the air, interrupted. This one was alarming at the branch afterwards while the chased one flew to ground vegetation calling there nearby. Gull probably had harassed it to fly to be able to catch it.

(Dynamic setting, but nothing seemed to be happening. )

At the time of taking picture I thought it was just coincidental, hardly noticing the spider, but after all it was a young predator.

Description

I think they're house sparrows, but I'm not great at differentiating female coloring yet.

Heard a commotion with lots of chirping. Most of the bystanders flew off when I approached, but these two were having an all-out brawl. They seemed to be tussling over something clasped in their beaks, but spouse and I couldn't make out what. (If only I hadn't forgotten the memory card for my non-phone camera...)

This yard is a regular haunt for the neighborhood mourning doves, but no sign of them today.

Description

Male house sparrow arrived injured one hour after the jackdaw attack. Not normally hopping but walking. Female was following. Did try to eat but I'm unsure how much it was able.

I was able to take it into safety recovering and get care.

EDIT: There was no care available. Bird died overnight.

What

House Sparrow (Passer domesticus)

Observer

kaupunkilinnut

Date

Description

Possibly this male was attacked by jackdaw. I thought the victim after escaping hopping under car was flying away still alarming with others (but that was likely group reaction for me intervening), and this male seemingly well was sleeping under the car. I thought it was ok but appeared to be the injured one found later.

EDIT: There was no care available. Bird died overnight.

I think this might become a standard interaction field, so have added a description (it might need improvement :-)

Posted by tony_wills about 8 years ago

cool, thanks :)

Posted by asemerdj about 8 years ago

I've changed all the interaction field names from "Interaction: " to "Interaction->" to stop them messing with the photo tag processing on photo import. When adding photos already tagged with fields to the "Add an observation" page, it was only grabbing the field name text after the colon and so not working properly.

Everything works now that the colon is gone, so long as you use a recognised taxon name. For example, if I tag a photo on my computer with "Interaction->Visited flower of=Rosmarinus officinalis" and upload it, it will get this field added with the taxon Rosmarinus officinalis.

That can save a lot of time if you''re maintaining your own photo library in your computer and tagging lots of photos there and uploading them all at once.
