Sinistral specimen!
Intertidal, hermit crabbed under a flat stone. This is a Sinistral (freak) specimen, which is extremely rare.

Description

Wild seedling under dense shade of exotic palms (Ravenea rivularis) on stream bank. Species either C microspadix or C costaricana, as both these species have fruiting specimens, planted 15-20 years ago, within 20 metres of this site. Collected for Auckland Museum herbarium. Specimen has two pinnate leaves. Only one seen.

Caught hovering under a tree along with several Fanniids.

Two different camera settings used (with and without flash) to show the striking electric blue irridescence.

Found in gravel in littoral zone(washed up??), alive.
Very surprisingly this was found on a beach that is North of Auckland. This is one of the most southern record of Hinea in NZ.

Also, its habitat is littral zone. Possibly it was living on the shore, not washed up.
