We had just finished up some field work at a site a little further north. As we were driving south, there was a dead E Cottontail in the road. As we swerved around it, the carcass moved. I assumed the cottontail was still alive, but one of the crew noticed the carcass was being dragged. We stopped and turned around to see a weasel trying to drag the carcass out of the road. We pulled up a little closer and the weasel ran off into the woods, but they came back quickly and proceeded to drag the dead cottontail out of the road and into the woods. I'm not sure if this is a Short-tailed Weasel, but imagining the head being laid out flat, it looks like the tail length is less than 1/2 the body length.
