Sac Fungi Phylum Ascomycota

Description

A black mould on a Red Matipo (Myrsine australis) tree.

I understand that this fungus grows on sap from plants and the honeydew secreted by insects such as aphids, scale insects, the whitefly, and other insects which suck sap from their host plants.

I can get a better closeup picture of the fungus if required.

Specimen is approx 10-15mm wide, 30-40mm long, and approx 2-3mm deep.

Has a green/grey colour on the top and a whitish underside - see photo 3.
