What

Domestic Cat (Felis catus)

What

Yaupon Holly (Ilex vomitoria)

Date

February 18, 2024 01:38 PM EST

Description

Can these be identified? Two cedar waxwings (see my previous observations) died at this bridge presumably due to window collision after eating these, and yellow-rumped warblers frequent the tree. Initial ID is purely a guess.

What

Cedar Waxwing (Bombycilla cedrorum)

Date

February 18, 2024 01:40 PM EST

Description

Second of two individuals dead at ISYE south bridge this afternoon. I got there just as other students were moving them off the path. It looks like they may have been feeding on the berries directly adjacent to the glass bridge

Young-of-the-year, no wax tips. Well-developed yellow spots on tail. Red stains on beak.

What

Eastern Gray Squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis)

Date

February 16, 2024 04:43 PM EST

Description

Red squirrel morph? This individual had particularly rufous coloration on the tail and back. We have had leucistic squirrels on campus within the last couple years so perhaps this is from their influence. Compare with normal squirrel in last pic.

Pretty beat up (probably weedwhacked) but still diagnostic for Blue Jay (black stripes, white tips)
There appears to be a secondary with a white trailing edge.
