Description

Growing scattered on hardwood twigs with black rhizomorphs. Locally abundant. Caps 0.6 to 2.2 cm wide. Stems 0.7 to 1.6 cm long and 0.1 cm wide. Slowly drying yellowish-orange. Odor not distinctive. Caps and gills turning brown after drying (examined in February 2024). Spore print white. Pileipellis covered with pileocystidia similar in morphology to the lamellar cystidia. Clamps present in the lamellar trama. Pleurocystidia and cheilocystidia present. Cheilocystidia hyaline; smooth; lageniform, utriform, fusiform, or tibiiform; appearing yellow in dried basidiocarps at low magnification. Basidia 4-sterigmate and basally clamped. Growing scattered on hardwood bark and twigs. Locally abundant. Caps 2.2 to 4.2 cm wide. Gills adnate or adnexed. Stems hollow. Stems 2.5 to 6.6 cm long and 0.2 to 0.4 cm wide. Clear guttation present on the bases of some stems. All surfaces drying pale orange. Odor not distinctive to slightly spermatic. Spore print white. Clamps present in the lamellar trama. Description

Growing on a fallen Lonicera maackii twig. Caps white (7.5YR 8.5/1 in Munsell) when young becoming very pale brown (10YR 8/2); dry; up to 5.8 mm wide and 3.0 mm tall. Gills white (7.5YR 8.5/1) at the youngest, becoming pale orange yellow (10YR 9.5/2) before becoming yellow in age (10YR 8/6); adnate. Stems dark bluish gray (10B 4/1); up to 15.7 mm long and 0.5 mm wide. Odor not distinctive. Taste slightly sweet. Not bioluminescent.

Growing abundantly on the undersides of fallen Sabal palmetto fronds. Basidiocarps cupulate; sessile; white; shriveling quickly after being lifted from the forest floor; not connected by a subiculum. All structures inamyloid. Monomitic without clamps. Lacking specialized hairs. Cystidia absent. Basidia 4-sterigmate. Spores apparently hyaline, smooth and thin-walled. Growing on a dead, standing Salix stick partially under peeling bark. On the bank of a creek. Hymenium drying white. Generated hyphae apparently gelatinized and difficult to discern. Description

Collected by Maggie Lutz during the West Virginia Mushroom Club’s 2023 foray. Growing on an unidentified hardwood chunk. Caps hygrophanous – “yellowish brown” (10YR 5/6 in Munsell) when wet or at margins, fading to whitish (“pale yellow” 2.5Y 8/2); dry; glabrous; infundibuliform; up to 21.9 mm wide. Gills “very pale yellow” (2.5Y 9.5/2), decurrent. Stems “very pale brown” (10YR 7/4) to “pale brown” (2.5Y 8/4, 2.5Y 7/4); innately fibrous; twisted; dry; with white basal mycelium and occasional white rhizoids; up to 20.4 mm long and 3.5 mm wide. Associated with a white mycelial mat. Cap and stem context white and solid. Spore print white. Odor and taste frainose. Not fluorescing under 365 nm UV light.

Description

Collected near the Left Sawmill Loop Trail. Growing abundantly on dead Campsis radicans vines on and above the ground in a swampy area along a stream. Associated with a white rot. Caps purple when young (closest to weak red 5R 5/2 in Munsell but more vibrant purple) becoming pink (7.5YR 8/3). in age; glabrous; dry; up to 25.6 mm wide and 5.2 mm tall. Gills white (pale orange yellow 10YR 9.5/2 to 10YR 9/2); intervenose; adnate. Stems similar in color to caps but paler; reddish or orange dots present on some stem bases; eccentric; tapering toward the base; up to 5.2 mm long and 2.2 mm wide. Cap and stem context white. Not bioluminescent. Not fluorescent under a blacklight flashlight. Odor and taste not distinctive. Pileipellis a cutis of hyaline hyphae. Lamellar trama inamyloid. Collected with Jacob Kalichman along the Left Sawmill Loop trail. 2 ascocarps, each growing from a beetle larvae embedded in a well-rotted hardwood log. Quercus rubra, Quercus alba, Carya sp., Liquidambar styraciflua, Nyssa sylvatica, Acer sp., Fraxinus sp., Acer sp., and Aesculus sp. present nearby. Not bioluminescent.
