Description

Well another cycle ends, and another opportunity to estimate how long my task ahead is begins! This sighting sees me having uploaded 677 sightings in 54 days, which is a pretty similar rate to last time - a bit under 13 sightings per day. Looking at photos, however, the rate of sorting has dropped to 46 per day (as this cycle was 2,485 photos), suggesting that these photos have been a bit more densely-packed than last time!

Now this leaves me with 29,039 photos left to sort - at this rate that will take me 631 days (~1.7 years) to sort them all!

But of course, just like last time I have still taken photos these past 54 days... 510 of them to be exact. So factoring in a photography rate of ~9.4 photos/day (quite a bit lower than last time owing to stage four restrictions), by the time I catch up I will have sorted 36,538 photos! That's roughly 9,544 sightings, so alas I will still not be beating @reiner :P

And how long will this take me? 794 days! That's not too bad, but sadly it's longer than last time. Seems my sorting has been slowing down, tsk tsk tsk. At least I'm still sorting faster than I'm taking photos! That may not be the case when lockdown finally ends though. We shall have to wait and see.

I'll be back to sorting in a few days (back to Townsville!), but in the meantime I need to write more about Miomantis, schedule some Yellow Monday posts, email some museums, sort some folders, and probably also make some memes. In the meantime, please feel free to go ID some of my sightings :P

I assume these eggs are probably Hemiptera but I do not recognise them - can anyone help? There is another sighting of them here identified as Lethocerinae but I cannot see that being correct. Neither of our Lethocerus species have ever been recorded in Victoria as far as I am aware, and this was on a shrub quite far from water at any rate.

Honestly one of the best reptile experiences I've ever had - this stunning little goanna was splayed out on the path soaking up the sun and paid zero attention to me even when I took some nice closeup shots! Absolutely beautiful creature - look at the size of those claws! It was also halfway through shedding so there were some pieces of skin coming off everywhere. I couldn't resist a little 'handshake', but most astonishing of all it was still there two hours later when I was walking back! He had changed position a bit but was still so chill.
