Strict annual plants. These have appeared on my property and the adjacent neighbours (as seen here) for the last 18 years - each year the flower colour has varied from completely yellow to dark blue to 'tri-coloured' and combinations inbetween. Flower size has also reduced in size over the last ten years or so from 20-30 mm long (top to bottom) to 14-16 mm (as seen here).

Most plants died off for the season but these are a fresh 'batch' that popped up following some rain had a few weeks back.

This is the most common flower colour at this site.

Frond found lying in gutter. Oddly this is the exact same place where I found a sporeling growing out of a drainage pipe (5 October 2016 - see https://inaturalist.nz/observations/4274405) noting at the time that 'I have yet to find the 'parent' plant(s) source for this foreign fern in Mt Albert. In the meantime this is the third occurrence of young plants of this species I have found in the suburb'. I still haven't found the adult in situ but I assume that this frond was knocked down / washed down the street in the torrential rain experienced throughout the day.

Growing by public toilet block in dry stony soil.

I collected this thinking it was Veronica javanica - not so sure of that now. However, I am struggling to get my specimens to fit any of the other obvious weedy exotic Veronica in New Zealand. It is perhaps closest to V. arvensis (if you exclude V. javanica).

Flowers scarcely opening - a classic feature of V. javanica in New Zealand but the leaves are uncharacteristically hairy, the leaf margin dentation is not so sharp either, and the stems are not the usual dark purple / maroon colour.

Possibly affected by the fact it was growing in sub-optimal conditions in heavy shade.
