Description

Locally common on Rekohu (Chatham Island). Mostly seen around settlements, or within sites of former habitation. Still widely cultivated on the island and mostly noted 'wild' as a cultivation relict or as deliberate plantings that appear 'wild'. However, also noted on cliff faces and in sites where garden waste had or hast been dumped. These images are of plants that are genuinely self-established within the main vehicle park between the Waitangi Hotel and Fish Factory.

Common on cliff faces, in gullies and sites where garden waste had once been dumped. Also a common garden escape and cultivation relict within the wider Waitangi settlement. This colour morph is the more common of the two seen (for the other see https://inaturalist.nz/observations/31327420)

Common on grassy slopes, grass covered sea cliffs and scattered throughout Waitangi Village. Mostly still a cultivation relict but now fast spreading in wasteland since I first noted it in this general area in 2002.

Description

Locally common on cliff faces below Waitangi Village. First noted here in 2005 as a few plants growing from garden waste. Now abundant and spreading quickly through rough pasture.

Arctotis taxonomy is a mess and the name used here is the best I could achieve in New Zealand. Very happy to be corrected. The plant seen here is the common species widely grown throughout New Zealand as "Arctotis".
