Tunnel Culvert. A truly epiphytic situation the orchids growing on a tree fern hanging over the stream. Too early to tell but possibly a C. macranthus judging by the speckiling on the flower bud.

Description

One of the more interesting pieces of road reserve. Thousands of leaves on side of road growing on moss covered boulders and banks. I had to look twice at these. The leaf was ever so slightly different and above the flower. The flower was more consistent with C. trilobus agg. The dorsal sepal was pointed at tip, labellum was rather smooth, lateral sepals and petals long. Potential pollinator noted on labellum. Generally growing among and tricky to disguish from C. macranthus. Difficult to photograph but I will return as more start to flower. Almost looks like Corybas sanctigeorgianus.

One of the more interesting pieces of road reserve. Thousands of leaves on side of road growing on moss covered boulders and banks. This specimen was much darker and flower was atop of the leaf. about 30 cm from previous observation. Could it be C. iridescens ?

I am not sure about this entity. it has the look of C. trilobus "Remutaka" in most respects and that is probably what it is. It was growing in a sheltered are under beech with more moisture that most of the other sites.

C. trilobus "remutaka". This was growing in moss. The rather palish green dorsal sepal seems one good indicator for this entity.

Description

C. trilobus "Remutaka" is very common in a large variety of habitats including moss under kahikatea and matai, open dry beech forest with little understory and blackberry. This particular specimen was in a very open windy dry area of black beech.

Regardless of the site this entity seems to produce very few flowers at any one time with some patches having none at all.

A small patch growing at the base of the hill slope above the flats above Princes Stream. This species is far outnumbered in the valley by C. trilobus "Remutaka". It is also bigger in all its parts than "Remutaka"
