Description

Nest on Manly Beach. Photo shows bird on nest behind sand bags, and mate in foreground. Well marked but unfortunately not protected from pet cats (see house in background) and especially not protected from dogs. Many people walk their dogs on Manly Beach off leash, and even those that do have them on a leash upset the birds. While we were there a dog on leash came along and caused the incubating bird to leave the nest. I don't have much hope for success of this breeding attempt.

What is this please? About 30 mm body length. Goldy brown wings. Black eyes. Antennae shorter than body. We've had a dozen or more walk or fly into house in past fortnight. I don't think it's American cockroach but can't determine what it is.

Description

Tree in our garden (either oroboides or divaricata), currently covered in flowers, but flowers past their best. Started flowering at least a couple of weeks ago. Earlier in spring Kereru visited it and ate leaves. Tui and eastern rosella now visit the flowers (rosellas look like they eat flower bases).
