Sea Rush (Juncus kraussii ssp. australiensis)Observer
tangatawhenuaDescription
Growing in a tidal stream at Kapo Wairua which is a mixture of fresh and salt water.
This plant is at the edge of the stream and I was there just after the turn of the low so I am guessing that the bottom of this plant is always in water.
Don't laugh at my guess! I chose this because to me the seeds look the same as that one, but then I know I could be wrong as this is growng in water so I am probably about to learn about a whole new plant - love it!

Maakoako (Samolus repens)Observer
tangatawhenuaDescription
Another plant growing out of the water at the edge of the tidal stream. I was there just after the turn of the low, so I am picking that the bottom of this area does not get exposed and is always covered in water.
From the "High tide" line in this area, it is possible that these plants may at times be fully submerged.

This really caught my eye, growing in the stream, that is a mix of sea water and fresh water (brackish?) Where it is growing the bottom does not become exposed at low tide.
Don't laugh at my guess! I chose this because to me the seeds look the same as that one, but then I know I could be wrong as this is growng in water so I am probably about to learn about a whole new plant - love it!

I think this is the right name as I learnt about this from another ob.
The second photo shows that there are no horns.
In fact I have yet to see any plants like this with horns - and I do check alot of them seeing as the horned ones are more common. Uless they have been overtaken by the hornless ones!
