Ascomata: 20-40 mm diam. x 10-20 mm thick. Peridial surface: pale orange-brown, verrucose. Peridial wall: outer cartilaginous layer 0.2 mm, yellow-white; inner layer 0.8-1.3 mm, light purple-brown. Spore mass: purplish-black, surrounded by pale-violaceous wispy mycelial strands. Spores: (18.8)20.0-28.0(28.9) µm, reddish brown, spines 2.0 - 3.0 µm, coalescing into a partial reticulum at the surface. Habitat: under Tsuga heterophylla and Pseudotsuga menziesii.

Tubifera ferruginosa s.l.
Pseudoaethalium: sessile on a spongy hypothallus, ovoid, 6.3 mm (l) x 4.2 mm (w) x 3.3 mm (h), pale orange-brown when collected, becoming dark violet-black and sclerified (never fully matured, with fungal infection). Sporothecae: fused, mostly elongated-cylindric, straight or slightly curved, 0.8-1.7 mm tall x 0.3-0.4 mm wide, tips adhering, slightly convex, somewhat irregular crescent-shaped. Capillitium not seen. Peridium amber-brown to hyaline in KOH, verrucose with larger rounded protrusions or cysts, 8-15 µm diam. Spores: (5.4)5.8-6.6(6.7) µm, faintly reticulate with 7-9 meshes. Habitat: on decaying wood covered in bryophytes, high elevation conifer forest. Like Tubifera ferruginosa s.l., but spores smaller (5.8-6.6 vs. 6.4-7.3). Probably didn't develop enough to identify.

Description

Sporocarps: 1.5-2.0 mm, ovoid to subglobose. Stalk: 0.4-0.8 mm (25-43% TH). Sporothecae: 1.0-1.1 x 0.7-1.0 mm diam. Peridium: silvery-black, evanescent, persisting at base. Capillitium: dense, dark, looping, funnel-shaped ends with fragments of peridium attached. Spores: 11.3-12.6 µm, dark brown, paler on one side, irregular spinulose in short sinuous rows, not forming a net.

Feeds : Atom
