I was initiated to the wonderful world of plant identification by an enthusiastic field botanist during numerous walks in the woods. With his help as well as with some good old-fashioned paperback guides, I learned to identify trees that are native to our region (Montreal, Quebec and surroundings) and some undergrowth plants as well as wildflowers. I'm also an avid vegetable gardener venturing into the world of flowers. Finally, mushroom-picking is a (Russian) family tradition, and my grandmother, mother and sister are well-versed in mushroom identification. I, on the other hand, still need some (crucial, life-saving) help in that area!
