I live now in a retirement village aka a Vrekplek in the local vernacular. Until the middle of last year, I lived in Sedgefield on the Garden Route where I walked for many years with the Outramps CREW Group. We covered an enormous part of the Southern Cape - coastal areas and inland in the Klein Karoo - and went to many spectacular and little-known parts, on farms, in the mountains and the beaches, in pursuit of rare and endangered plants. I had the time of my life. Never a dull moment. Cape Town is where I was born, at school (Rustenburg Girls' High), university (UCT, BSc in Zoo and Microbiology), and mainly lived(Claremont, Newlands) and taught (WPPS, Herschel). Married to Oliver, we spent time in Holland and New York in the '60's and '70's. Addicted to snow-skiing in our middle years (6 Swiss francs to the rand in the early days, latterly another story). Enough of that: I have a low threshhold of boredom, love plants and our dogs and am amazed at the self-belief and self-confidence of the young as we see it in our grandchildren. (This is sounding like my obituary, so oorgenoeg.)
