I was born and grew up in the North East of England but have spent most of my adult life living in Woking, Surrey. Throughout my childhood I spent a lot of time outdoors bird-watching and taking an interest in nature in general. This more or less disappeared from the best part of my adult life but now has returned thanks to in some part having digital cameras and the internet in which to capture and record.

My main passion is Lepidoptera and during the spring and summer months I take every opportunity to get out into the country to look for butterflies, other insects (with a particular emphasis on Hoverflies) and other wildlife. In winter more time is spent at the computer with occasional trips to wetland sites for bird-watching.

I have been running a garden moth trap for the last 8 years an have amassed a total of 712 species and a moth life-list of over 960 (which is only around a third of all the species in the UK .. so some way to go). It's a bit of an obsession but a one which I thoroughly enjoy.
