Hiking, exploring, hunting, jeeping, Google Earth, topo maps, field guides, taxonomy, biology, geology, astronomy, and other
-onomys and -ologies: it's all good.

My background is ecology and conservation. I started life (well, grad school) as a whale researcher at Memorial University of Newfoundland, studying the problem of marine mammal entrapment in fishing gear. I moved on to forest ecology at University of Maine in Orono, specifically looking at the invertebrate communities of standing dead trees.

I currently teach a general biology course and a genetics course online at the College of Southern Nevada, while living in Maine.

I also own and manage the Far Winde-A-Way Nature Preserve with my Dad, and maintain the Preserve's Facebook Page.
