Abundant but extremely difficult to photograph as these birds are very shy and nervous; taking off at the slightest movement (rather different from my experience of the nominate subspecies and the Kermadec one which will happily fly up to you and rummage through your pack). I was lucky enough to get these images, as probably because it had been blowing a gale all night and so this bird had gone to ground and was still 'waking up' when I chanced upon it. Chatham Island kakariki are heard throughout the forested part of the island, but generally seem to spend all their time in the forest canopy. On this visit I didn't see any in the The Clears or on the coastline.
