Finally after months of seeing these tails disappearing into the undergrowth this one wandered onto the track in front of me and posed for a couple of photos before wandering off :) It is about 3 inches long.

I put in common skink but it does not have those markings. So I tried brown skink but that lives Taranaki South.

A species ID would be most appreciated :)
